Why? I'm the one calling bullshit on you arguing RATM made no impact on the world.

if you can't verify something, then arguments in either direction have no meaning
you might as well argue that green invisible elephants have altered how we see the world

Exactly. How are you gonna start your argument by negating it?

Although... invisible green elephants have clearly influenced the way some people view the world... but that's neither here nor there.

Come on guys, this is just disappointing.
You argue RATM have had no impact on the world, have not changed people's ideas on anything.
I say you can't know this, and give them the benefit of the doubt.
I don't see how you can claim to know they've had no effect. Are you inside the heads of everyone who's ever heard their music? Thought not.

Hmmm....

Any difference they've made has yet to, you know, make a difference.

uh, no
your argument cannot be verified
mine can - i don't make statements about what i can't know or haven't seen - but i can tell you what i have seen - fat rich kids throwing money at liars
real communists don't sign on the capitalist dotted line

why would i give a bunch of hypocrites the benefit of the doubt?
while you're at it, throw money at television evangelists
same fucking thing
only ratm make more money doing it

Did Rage ever have any independent releases or are they one of those bands that just appeared, fully formed, on a major label/commercial radio one day? I'm pretty sure it's the latter...

i don't think real revolutionaries use guitars

Even when they're accompanied by deep, insightful, nuanced lyrics like "fuck you I won't do what you tell me", which most of their fans use to justify bong hits as a better use of their time than showing up to, say, history class?

Jeff and Rus...

I just wanted to inform the two of you that I had no idea Rage Against The Machine didn't actually affect any amount of social or political change, as they and their fans have claimed they have done on numerous occasions, until you took it upon yourselves to demonstrate this fact in your brilliant posts on this internet message board.

For the longest time, I was under the impression that Rage Against The Machine were, in fact, affecting a large amount of social and political change, and that they had a genuine communist/anarchist/anti-establishment/anti-capitalist agenda. Because of what you have posted in this internet message board thread, I now know that this has never been the case.

Thank you both very much for bringing this to my attention, and may God bless your beautiful precious angelic little souls.

Forever yours,
Nicolae <3

Dude if it was up to me there'd never have been a rage thread to begin with.

I fully agree, Jeff.

There must never be threads created on internet message boards regarding musical artists as exploitative of the large consumer demographic of music listeners interested in politically-charged confrontational anti-establishment rock music in spite of their true intent to make lots of money working for the establishment itself as Rage Against The Machine. Such thread-making is indecent and immoral and must be stopped. Perhaps someone should contact the forum administrator regarding this matter so that he/she may put a stop to it at once.

However, you must admit, a lot of good has ultimately come out of this thread. For instance, until reading this thread, I had never noticed how thoughtless the lyrics "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" actually were. I mean, this is a band supposedly interested in promoting a political agenda, and THAT'S what their message is to their listeners? Give me a break!

I'll admit, I had originally thought those lyrics were quite clever, but now that I look back and think about it, Zack De La Rocha never really addresses who he is speaking those words to, or in what context those words are being used. Talk about poor songwriting! Fuck who? Who is it for whom he won't do what they tell him? What is it that they they are telling him to do? None of this makes any amount of sense to me, and, as such, it must be permanently done away with for the safety of our soldiers fighting bravely in Iraq in defense of our freedom.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Adds More Dates
Geoff Boucher of the Los Angeles Times reports that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will join the WU-TANG CLAN for three shows under the banner of Rock the Bells, the acclaimed hip-hop festival that kicks off in New York on July 28 and hits Southern California on Aug. 11.

The Southern California show will be at the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino while the third show, on Aug. 18, will be in San Francisco. The sites of the New York and San Francisco shows as well as ticket sales information will be announced by organizers on Monday.

RAGE is already the closing-night headliner of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 29 in Indio, a festival that sold out 80 days in advance due to the pent-up fan demand for the Los Angeles band. RAGE played their last show in 2000.

That Coachella show was announced as a "one-and-done" affair but the quick sellout and the harsh-priced ticket scalping already underway are among the factors in the added shows, according to sources close to the band. There's also the historical punch of performing with WU-TANG CLAN, one of the most ambitious and influential hip-hop outfits ever.

"RAGE will do four shows and just four in 2007," said Chang Weisberg, the founder of Guerilla Union and organizer of Rock the Bells. "Coachella is first, that's the granddaddy. And now these three with the WU-TANG CLAN represent a very, very special thing."

According to Punknews.org, before RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's high-profile Cochella reunion show, Tom Morello and and Zack de la Rocha will perform for free in Chicago for the 2007 Coalition of Immokalee Workers Truth Tour. The April 14 rally comes right after the announcement that McDonald's will meet all of the demands made by the CIW, a community-based farmworker organization whose members are largely Latino, Haitian, and Mayan Indian immigrants working in low-wage jobs throughout the state of Florida.

Morello and de la Rocha will be part of a "Carnaval and Parade" that will make its way through downtown Chicago and return to Federal Plaza for a celebratory rally featuring CIW members, allies, and a dynamic lineup of other well-known artists, musicians and speakers. The "Carnaval and Parade" will be composed of blocks, contingents, music groups, and theater organized by the CIW and allies.
