4 weeks gone and I'm yet to receive mine. Did you guys (outside of the US) have to wait that long because of customs clearance too?

Not sure what the reason was. I would have put it down to their choice of mail. It's rare it takes more than 2 weeks for me to get anything from America. Though mostly I'm on amazon choosing 'expidited' shipping which gets it my way approx 8 days, depending on where the weekends fall.

Ah, just checked the packaging. International surface mail. Most things are more expensive but go air mail.

Mine was shipped Jan 30th and I still have not got it. I am fuckin furious. I wrote them 3 times now. My other buddy has not gotten his yet either. Has anyone from canada received theirs?

I was at a local record shop and they have the normal edition of this album, but not the green.

Let me know if anyone from Canada has received theirs. Thanks.

My girlfriend got it for me for my birthday. I didn't even ask for it, and she didn't even know I was currently really wanting it. It was a nice surprise. She just found it in a record store where she lives.

Mine arrived a week ago, but the postman posted the card to the wrong address. Got mine, Number nine-something-six. Played my original copy through a Rega P3 using diamond 9.1 speakers, Cambridge Audio 640p preamp and Onkyo txsr506 amplifier and an EPPOS ELS subwoofer. Sounded fantastic with just a little click and hiss you'd expect from a record nearing fifteen years old and having been played regularly. Played the new version, green wax as per the rest of the ltd jobbies, thought it was going to be a horror show, but was surprisingly vibrant though lacking in musicality in comparison to the original. The level of the recording is far lower than before which was already extremely quiet due to the methods employed by Anderson in the mix to engineer those deafening roars and squeals at the different interludes throughout the record. Although not as good as the original pressing (I have the inferior US pressing of the original, not the European) it still stands up well and for $9.99 a bargain. I feel the record will perform better over time, especially as the grooves are polished more through continued use. Anyone have feedback on the black vinyl reissue?

Im not sure where they got the master for the new 180grm versions. But yeah theres definitely a wide presense missing from the green vinyl. My original US release sounds fuller.

also picture disks (not sure about colored vinyl) are notorious for not holding sound quality. my copy of Lateralus side 3 is horrid sounding. But its mint A+

No. I just know they're not God given.

I think the exact phrase I used was "I am not a fan".

So people who aren't fans buy limited addition reissues on coloured vinyl, even though they own the original?

Correct:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mr-Bungle-Disco-V ... .m63.l1177

I don't plan to sell mine for a while, but I'm betting my return will be at least twice this. Not a bad bet for a $10 stake.

I have to say, Lou...after all these years you still have no insight and complete shit for brains.

I had a gift certificate to Best Buy and just bought a DV vinyl, along with a Jack Off Jill one.

Wouldn't expect Best Buy to have so much vinyl available on their web-store, pretty cool.

When looking at both original and green versions, you can see they've used different master discs. I was initially going to state that it could be that it's on coloured vinyl but I don't think it's limited to that one factor. Checking the Plain Records version, they've eaten as much vinyl up the label as possible. Usually not a good move, especially considering the music closer to the centre of the record gets messed up with regards to anything high or low, quite important in a release of this kind. If they wanted to do Disco Volante's fantastic production any justice they would have remastered the album and put it on two 33rpm LPs and handed it to a plant with a proven track record and to be double sure of quality, keep it to heavyweight black vinyl.

A picture disc is usually made of two thin pieces of clear vinyl - not dissimilar to flexi-discs - with the picture then sandwiched between the two. This means that they are manufactured using very shallow grooves, so they'll rarely sound as good as a properly pressed LP with deep grooves. There are exceptions, but they are rare.
