I'm pretty religious about reading rogerebert.com
he's more-or-less the best critic out there.

Are there any sites that describe the films without passing a quality judgement on them? Those are the ones I want to read.

ebert is still alive?

he's still a good writer, but he seems to give EVERY movie a ridiculously positive review these days

btw, the newly uploaded old video reviews of siskel/ebert = nonstop entertainment/awesomeness

Hank, you should dig into Senses of Cinema.

Also, from what I've read, Cinema Scope might be worth checking out.

still alive, yes, and a great writer
as for the positive review thing, I've heard so many people argue this. Of the current films reviewed on his site:

Arctic Tale
December Boys
Dedication
El Cantate
Evening
Good Luck Chuck
Lady Chatterley
No Reservations
Rush Hour 3
September Dawn
Silk
The 11th Hour
The Hottest State
The Invasion

all two stars or less. Which is certainly not a good review. Even considering that Ebert is better than most critics at taking into account the film's intended audience. Of course I disagree with some of his star-ratings, but he knows how to write -about- a movie, probably better than most. Even the bad ones. And he does it in a way that (mostly) doesn't make him seem pompous.

3 stars is a 75% grade. a 'C' is supposed to be average. add up the current reviews on his site. 3 stars is average. interesting, no?
