Ordered my ticket today. I am so excited about it I'll even give the Flaming Lips another chance

I hated the Flamers as they were so utterly shit live. They were so undeniably shit that I got my money back from the promoters in the form of a Beta Band ticket, who in turn were awesome. That's why I'll give the Flaming Lips another chance

Going to see Primus two nights in a row at the Albert Hall in April might make up for it though

Oh Maz...if it's anything like Melbourne, you're in for a wonderful time.

Really good crowd for one (though in the middle of fucking NOWHERE) - That said, it backed on to the werribee zoo so you would have been at home with the smell of animal shit.

Family Stone? So sweet.

Mogwai? Well, theres no convincing some people.

Flaming Lips? Pretty good though I couldn't see shit - Lots of balloons and confetti explosions.

Portishead? YOHMUHGAWD. Totally exceeded expectations - Utterly fucking superb.

Interesting festival, certainly filled a niche as yet to be filled down here. Only fucking gripe was the lines - both in length and location (main bar line ran right through where path between the main stage and everywhere else), not enough toilets/food/bars - That said, 18+ meant no drinking pens, free to roam with exorbitantly priced drinks that you'll pretty much need to get back in line as soon as you've got them if you don't want to run out.

Harvest Sydney was wonderful. Great line up, lovely staff, fantastic atmosphere and lots of fun stuff to look at. Also - clean loos, short waiting time for beer and bogs - and the bar took real money!

Family Stone unfortunately clashed with The Walkmen, who I wanted to see for the second time since King Tuts in Glasgow about 10 years ago. They did a couple of my fave tracks so I was happy with that. Nostalgic.

Mercury Rev - loved the music and see now where Arcade Fire made their main quarry. Interesting cover of Solsbury Hill but overall, a bit too much posturing and preening. Good music, wanky performers.

Bright Eyes - bastards brought tears to my eyes (as opposed to TV on the radio, who brought them to my ears). Really enjoyed them.

The National – the reason I went, and seriously fantastic although the sound was a bit shit from the railings. Loved the new arrangements, other than Slow Show which was a bit too, well, slow. LOVE this band.

Couldn’t be bothered with Flaming Lips in the end and skipped Portishead – I saw them a few years ago and although they did some great tunes – didn’t shine out as a great live act. No doubt I’ll have to live down the jeers of contempt and hear how unbelievable they were and how Beth got her wabs out or whatevvah.

Great weather too, as well as plenty of places to loll about, trees to idle beneath and loads of cute side show stuff including two 8 foot kangaroos harassing the general public.
Possible downside in that the only beer available was Coopers, but if you don’t like Coopers you’re un-Australian and anyway, they had cider.
